[06:41:12] MORNING.LOG

pick a way to start the day:

$ ./cat_alarm.sh $ ./feeding_time.sh

[06:41:12] MORNING.LOG :: cat_alarm

there's a cat in my armpit. he's one of 6 in my care right now. ramen is a former bottle baby. what a sweet, fluffy alarm clock.

coffee, black as midnight on a moonless night.

stretch. play nightcore music, quietly. stretch and sprint before the world wakes up

$ cd ./midday

[06:41:12] MORNING.LOG :: feeding_time

it's 3am. yesterday, the shelter gave me 4 baby creatures, each less than 100 grams big.

a warm bottle and a big hug means everything when you're that small. did you know they can't even hear you until they're more than a week old?

welcome to the world, my friends. I can't wait to see you get big.

$ cd ./midday

[10:15:03] MIDDAY.LOG

work is the least interesting thing about my life.

$ ./client_call.sh $ ./fire_drill.sh

[10:15:03] MIDDAY.LOG :: client_call

home desk, laptop open, coffee refilled once. then twice. I started the day with 203 items on the todolist. Now, sitting at a cute 62. tomorrow, it'll be in the hundreds again. I'm a month away from a promotion and I have to hustle..

today's calls: walking a client through the results of their most recent cybersecurity audit. I do like this part, taking something dense and making it click for someone who was dreading the conversation. I make the scary stuff easy.

there's a cat behind the monitor. she was not invited to this meeting.

$ cd ./run

[10:15:03] MIDDAY.LOG :: fire_drill

a client's had an incident, or thinks they have, which is its own kind of incident. i spend the morning being the calm voice on the other end of the call.

in another life i was a therapist. i'm great at managing a crisis.

coffee goes cold. lunch was never going to happen today anyway.

$ cd ./run

[13:30:47] RUN.LOG

my sneakers are laceless, so i just slip them on. break time looks like: shoes on, out the door, left on santa monica blvd. two ways it goes:

$ ./the_loop.sh $ ./past_the_loop.sh

[13:30:47] RUN.LOG :: the_loop

6 miles, that's about an hour, allowing for some time to stop and take pictures.

but it's monday, too. it's distro day. I stop the run, and start biking.

load up my panniers with snacks, hygiene, tents, and wipes for people living on the sidewalks in hollywood.

there's a man named randall outside the children's hospital. he's got a gnarly infection in his leg, and he's in a wheelchair.

he's going to be so excited about the gloves i found him.

$ cd ./afternoon

[13:30:47] RUN.LOG :: past_the_loop

i just... keep going, past where i meant to stop.

13 miles later, I'm at the beach.

welp. heel turn. pivot. time to go home.

$ cd ./afternoon

[16:02:19] AFTERNOON.LOG

the slump hits two ways. pick one:

$ ./floor_time.sh $ ./tidy_mode.sh

[16:02:19] AFTERNOON.LOG :: floor_time

i am an excellent pet bed, and the kitchen tile feels amazing on my back.

but i tricked you. we're not staying down here.

today, I teach beautiful people how to tie their beautiful partners up.

I show people how to feel sensually confident, and how to create responsibly fun intimate experiences for themselves and their partners.

and at the end, hoist myself in the air. how's that for "floor time"?

$ cd ./evening

[16:02:19] AFTERNOON.LOG :: tidy_mode

i tidy something that didn't need tidying. resetting my space resets something in my brain.

and after, a digital tidy. maybe I'm scheduling marketing for any of the many classes i teach

or maybe i need to order more supplies for mutual aid distro

$ cd ./evening

[18:45:00] EVENING.LOG

two versions of tonight exist. pick one:

$ ./wistful.sh $ ./night_off.sh

[19:10:55] WISTFUL.LOG

no more plans tonight

i have books, and i have my subtack drafts. who knows, maybe one day I'll dare to publish one.

i do a lot. but i really like the life i built for myself. every beautiful thing feels earned.

i'm ambitious and responsible, and i get things done.

i'm dependable in the city of flakes. it's not really a judgement, i wish i could release sometimes. but the sense of pride i feel when my days quiet down means too much to me.

$ cd ./night

[19:10:55] OFF.LOG

a friend's hosting something across town, the good kind of low-stakes queer chaos, and i show up because i love my friends, and i want to be around to see them fucking WIN.

it's too easy to stay in. I haven't canceled on a plan in months, and I don't intend on starting today. I remember when nobody showed up for my success. I will never, ever opt out of being there to see a friend win.

a promise i couldn't bear not to keep.

$ cd ./night

[21:30:00] NIGHT.LOG

bedtime.

$ ./cook_simple.sh $ ./toast_and_scroll.sh

[21:30:00] NIGHT.LOG :: cook_simple

food. probably fries in the oven. or tofu in a sauce. quick and simple.

but most of the terrible food i make does come in serving sizes of two. maybe one day someone will be around to have the other half.

goodnight, animals.

$ cd ./end

[21:30:00] NIGHT.LOG :: toast_and_scroll

too tired to cook. protein bar.

a little tiktok scrolling to power down, then goodnight to the animals.

but my tiktoks aren't really brainrot. they're chatty. like being on facetime with someone.

maybe one day i'll be able to just listen to someone who's really sitting next to me in the bed instead.

answer one or two late work messages so tomorrow morning will be easy.

$ cd ./end

[23:59:59] did you have fun?

say hello :) @tanglebyte

$ ./see all the other shit on this site!
